Jet is a Technical Recruiter for Canva, an Australian online design platform and one of the fastest growing software companies in the world. In this role, he is responsible for attracting and hiring the best technology talent for Canva’s engineering group.
Before joining Canva, Jet spent five years working in recruitment consulting and was a Principal Consultant at Robert Walters, a leading global recruitment agency. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Asia-Pacific Studies in 2016.
Outside of work, Jet is an avid wine enthusiast, world traveller and certified Sake Sommelier. He recently completed the PADI Open Water Diver course on the Great Barrier Reef.

When screening potential candidates for a role at Canva, what do you look for?
We definitely look for candidates who have a growth mindset and who thrive on change! Canva is growing at an incredible rate in our mission to empower the whole world to design, and so we look for folks who think big and care deeply about what they do. One of our core values is to ‘set crazy big goals and make them happen’. Candidates who can prioritise well in the face of ambiguity and hustle towards achieving their goals usually do well in our process.
What are some common mistakes that students should avoid in their CVs?
Try to avoid being too broad and generic when describing the nature of your work. We love to see candidates take a creative approach to their resume whether through unique templates or attaching portfolios of work highlighting the impact that they made.
What led you to becoming a Certified Sake Sommelier?
I strongly believe in taking the time to decompress outside of work. That’s why I have quite a few hobbies, including studying for Sommelier certificates. I love learning about the culture and history behind the art of Sake, which dates back hundreds of years. Fun facts about Sake: it is made in all 47 prefectures of Japan, can be served hot or cold and can taste sweet to dry!
