Supercharging skills and securing contract

Aadit Doshi signed up to do a CBE Internship with the intention of getting out of his comfort zone. He threw himself into the intern role of Business Analyst at Liquid Instruments, a technology company spun out of The Australian National University (ANU) that provides next-generation solutions for test and measurement built on flexible software.

The company’s reconfigurable Moku platform delivers a full suite of instrumentation, from benchtop essentials to advanced tools, in one device. This versatility helps scientists swiftly move from idea to implementation while reducing the cost of research and development, from aerospace and defence to semiconductors and communications.

Aadit’s hard work and meticulous research earned him the ANU College of Business and Economics (CBE) Undergraduate Intern of the Year Award for Semester 1, 2024.

With no experience, Aadit’s task was to collaborate closely with the Director of Channel Sales Amitesh Kumar (who is a CBE alumnus) to research the feasibility of the company’s expansion into key regions such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Impressively, Aadit managed to secure a contract with a supplier in Vietnam.

“I developed a comprehensive metric and ranking system to vet and evaluate over 65 distributors across various regions; a task that required a deep understanding of the principles I had studied,” he explains.

“The qualitative business-management frameworks I learned at ANU were invaluable when designing the methodology for selecting the distributor.”

For Aadit, who is studying a Bachelor of Finance at CBE, his experience as an intern reinforced the importance of bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world scenarios.

“It showed how academic concepts could directly contribute to professional success.”

In his internship, Aadit had abundant networking opportunities, worked closely with industry experts, and presented his findings to a large body of professionals in both Australia and the United States.

For Aadit, completing a CBE Internship was unquestionable, and he encourages other students to take the opportunity while it’s available.

“While ANU courses are highly practical and taught by some of the best professors globally, this internship offered something unique: the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in a real-world context, working on projects with real companies that have social, moral, and financial implications,” he says.
