Bring a fresh perspective to your team: Host an intern from the ANU College of Business (CBE).
Hosting an intern provides mutual benefit for host organisations and students. Students apply academic knowledge in context, while industry partners benefit from fresh perspectives based on research-led education.
Industry partners also have the opportunity to assess high-achieving and talented ANU students in their senior academic years for short-term projects and subsequent graduate positions or employment opportunities.
CBE welcomes hosts across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors for student placements in the following disciplines:

Host project registrations are open all year round. Host registration/s for the next intake (Sem 2, 2025) of internships closes 8 May 2025. If this timeline doesn't work for you, contact us on internship.cbe@anu.edu.au to discuss your options.
In this program, a select group of students commit 120 or 240 hours (12 or 24 hours per week over 10 weeks) to industry internship projects for course credit. The internships contribute to developing the employability skills of our students, who undertake activities for their internship hosts.
The program includes five practical workshops throughout the semester to assist interns in further developing skills within the workplace. Each intern will be supervised by a workplace supervisor, the CBE Careers and Student Employability team, course convenor and tutor.
There are two intakes each year, coinciding with Semester 1 (February - May) and Semester 2 (July - October). In late 2025, we may run a Spring session: October 2025 – January 2026.
CBE Internship projects can be research or operation focused. In the past, our students have been engaged in supporting various functions of an organisation, including (but not limited to):
- supporting the development of marketing, communications and stakeholder engagement plans, and onboarding/training materials for new staff
- conducting research on policies, government programs and frameworks
- mapping operational and financial processes, and recommending areas for improvement or developing organisational-wide manuals
- collecting, analysing and interpreting market research and operational data
- modelling financial risks and governance.
As students will earn course credit, the internships can be paid or unpaid. Many of our host organisations offer a small payment in the form of a stipend. Paid opportunities are most welcome.
There are two intakes each year, coinciding with Semester 1 (February - May) and Semester 2 (July - October). In 2025, we may run another Spring session.

Please note that:
- hosts must hold current Public Liability Insurance
- hosts must have a Code of Conduct document
- each host must sign all agreements prior to the semester beginning.
Additionally, hosts must appoint a workplace supervisor for the intern, and make sure the supervisor is aware of all responsibilities associated with the role.
Once you have registered your project, it will be added to the list of available internships for CBE students to view. Once student applications have closed, we will send you a shortlist of all the candidates eligible for your project, for you to interview and select.

The CBE Internship program is available in the below attendance modes.
- In person (only for businesses and organisations based in ACT, Australia).
- Hybrid (in person, with a working-from-home component).
- Virtual/online.
Please note: For internships during semesters, if there is an expectation for the student to attend any on-site visits, these will need to occur during the Semester 1, 2025 teaching break (31 March–14 April) and the Semester 2, 2025 teaching break (1–15 September), and all expenses (including flights, accommodation, meals, and other incidentals) are to be covered by the host organisation. Students will also need to complete the ANU travel approval form.
For internships during spring session, travel arrangements will need to be agreed upon by the student and host, and approved by the University prior to the internship commencement.
Each internship is covered by an ANU Internship Agreement, including clauses for insurance coverage, non-disclosure of confidential information, IP protection, and an internship schedule.
In some instances, the ANU provides group personal accident and public liability insurance cover for students undertaking an approved internship. There are a few requirements to meet, such as the intern must be an enrolled student at the commencement and completion of their internship, and others.
