The ANU College of Business and Economics (CBE) is pleased to announce the launch of its Master of Applied Accounting. The newest addition to the College’s suite of specialised postgraduate study options, the program is a great choice for students looking to accelerate their accounting education.
“The Master of Applied Accounting is an exciting new one-year program that will give students the opportunity to acquire the critical skills needed for producing, evaluating and using accounting information in decision-making and informing organisational stakeholders,” emphasises Professor Juliana Ng, Director of CBE’s Research School of Accounting.
The program is for graduates who wish to equip themselves with essential accounting knowledge, integrated with critical analysis and business-research capabilities, which are highly valued by employers.
“The skills developed through this program will ensure that those who complete it are able to have maximum positive impact in their workplaces. The ability to gather and use accounting information to make the best decisions for a business is highly sought-after by employers in many different industries,” explains Dr Bronwen Whiting, CBE’s Associate Dean (Education).
The Master of Applied Accounting is designed for students with prior studies in business or economic disciplines, providing a strong base in the core accounting areas and a choice of capstone courses. Those who have previously completed accounting studies can also choose to undertake advanced accounting courses, including more specialised courses in corporate social responsibility reporting, public-sector accounting, tax and auditing.
Alumnus Victor Wei, who graduated with a Master of Accounting in 2018, believes the valuable lessons he learned at CBE enabled him to address complex challenges and prepared him for his career.
"When I started my journey at CBE, from day one, it was clear to me that the College aims to develop future leaders. The technical and professional abilities I developed throughout my studies at CBE helped me tremendously in landing and excelling my career in Australia as an international student," shares Victor, who is currently an Audit and Assurance Associate at Grant Thornton Australia.
The Master of Applied Accounting commences in February 2021 and will assist graduates in their pursuit to succeed professionally in accounting firms, government departments, banking and finance organisations, and other related fields.
