Biography

Luca is a Lecturer of Statistics at the Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Statistics of The Australian National University, in Canberra, Australia. His research interests range from methodological and computational statistics to statistical theory, with a particular focus on variational approximations and generalised linear mixed models. 

Luca is also the current president of the Australian Capital Territory branch of the Statistical Society of Australia.

Past Positions and Education

  • Jan 2022 – Jan 2024. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Statistics at the Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Statistics of The Australian National University, in Canberra, Australia, under the supervision of A./Prof. Francis Hui and co-supervision of Prof. Alan Welsh.

  • Oct 2018 – Jan 2022. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Statistics at the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences of University of Technology Sydney, in Sydney, Australia, under the supervision of Prof. Matt Wand. 

  • Oct 2018 – Dec 2021. Research Fellow of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical frontiers (ACEMS). 

  • Oct 2015 – Feb 2019 (thesis submitted in Sep 2018). PhD in Statistics, Department of Statistical Sciences of Università degli Studi di Padova, in Padua, Italy, under the supervision of Prof. Nicola Sartori, and the co-supervision of Prof. Alessandra Salvan and Prof. Matt Wand.
