Presenter Bio
Suzanne Chan-Serafin is Associate Professor of Management at the UNSW Business School. Her research explores various moral and diversity issues in the workplace and in particular addresses the following questions: Why do organizational members engage (with intent, or not) in ethically questionable and discriminatory acts? What minimizes these acts? And, for the victims, what are the consequences of these acts and how do they cope with and manage such negative experiences? Her research aims to advance the understanding of how organizations can build a moral and inclusive workforce and enhance the welfare of their employees. Her current projects include examining the development of an inclusive climate in higher education industry, the lived experiences of Indigenous employees and leaders in Australian corporations, as well as how gender configurations in leadership teams impact organizations’ adoption of practices to support employees affected by domestic violence.
She was a co-Chief Investigator of an ARC Discovery project examining abusive leaders and their influences on employees. Suzanne’s research has been published in, amongst others, the Human Relations, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Business Ethics, and Organization Science. Her research has also appeared in media outlets such as the Australian Financial Review and National Public Radio. She is on the Editorial Board of Journal of Vocational Behavior and Journal of Business and Psychology and was Chair of the UNSW Business School Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
