Biography

Motohiro Kumagai is a Lecturer in Economics with a research focus on economic growth and development, political economy, cultural economics, and economic history. His expertise lies in the theoretical and empirical investigation of the deep roots of economic development and inequality, integrating theories and data from diverse disciplines such as economics, political science, anthropology, archaeology, ecology, and biology. In his research, he explores how the prehistoric extinction of large herbivores triggered the Neolithic Revolution, marking the transition from foraging to agriculture. In another study, he examines the impact of the horse on state formation and the evolution of autocratic institutions.
