Biography

Zain is currently affiliated with the Research School of Management at the Australian National University. He is also involved as a co-investigator in a World Vision Australia project on small and growing businesses in Myanmar and Ghana. He additionally serves on the ANU Grand Challenge "Australian Social Cohesion: Exploring New Directions" (ASCEND) project. Prior to taking up these roles he was a YK Asia scholar and researcher at the Putra Business School, Malaysia. He also had a brief stint as an ICCR scholar at the Institute of Management in Kerala, India.

Zain is a certified professional trainer by the Swinburne University of Technology, and an accredited lecturer in intercultural management by the Hofstede Insights, Finland. He has more than 5 years of academic and corporate experience in home and abroad. He also worked extensively in rural areas and had firsthand exposure to different aspects of rural credit, particularly SME and agricultural credit. His 2019 paper on loan delinquency and poverty level of borrowers won the best paper award in an international conference.

Zain has received numerous competitive scholarships, grants and recognitions from such institutions as European Academy of Management, IMD Switzerland, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Khazanah Nasional Berhad Malaysia, Macquarie University, and the Australian National University. His research spans a broad spectrum of issues related to social entrepreneurship, social innovation, social justice, and social movement. Besides publishing in refereed journals, he occasionally writes opinions and commentaries for local and international newspapers and outlets.

Zain has presented his papers at conferences and academic events in a number of countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. He is a member of the Academy of Management and the European Group for Organizational Studies and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK.
