A Summer Research Scholarship includes:
Full board at Burgmann College
A weekly allowance (tax free)
Return travel to Canberra
An opportunity to undertake a short research project on an approved topic
Duration: 8 to 11 weeks from mid November 2008 to early February 2009
Areas of Research
School of Economics
The School of Economics was the first academic body specializing in economics to be established in
the Australian Capital Territory, and can trace its origins back to 1929 and the Canberra University College.
The School is ranked first amongst Australian economics schools for the volume and quality of its research. In
a recent survey of Australian professors of economics, it was ranked overall first in the nation under the general
heading "Where is economics done best?"
Its strengths range from core microeconomics and macroeconomics through financial, public and international economics.
The School also covers the disciplines of economic history and econometrics. Emphasis in all teaching is placed on training
students to use economic methods successfully. Accordingly, the school has the reputation for courses with comparative strengths
in analysis and the application of economics.

School of Accounting and Business Information Systems (ABIS)
The School of Accounting and Information Systems (ABIS) has a world-class reputation for research and teaching in the areas of accounting and business information systems.
The school has particular strengths in the areas of Auditing, Information Systems Theory, Public Sector Accounting and Governance. The school offers a range of research opportunities in these areas as detailed below
Accounting
Accounting is concerned with measurement, reporting and evaluation of information, including computerised information, which assists in the management of resources in business entities and government organisations.Research enquiries are welcomed in the areas of staff research interests.These are Auditing, Public Sector Accounting, Social and Environmental Accounting, Corporate Governance, and Analytics / Forensic Accounting.The accounting group also has a strong commercial law area.
Business Information Systems
Business Information Systems is concerned with the study of business information and its production, flows and usage within organisations. It encompasses both manual activities and those involving computing and telecommunications.The information systems group has a world leading focus on issues of Business Information Systems Theory; however there is ongoing research in many aspects of business information systems.
School of Management, Marketing and International Business
The School of Management, Marketing and International Business offers a range of courses in the area of marketing, management
and international business and is a primary provider of teaching and supervision of candidates in graduate diplomas, master and
doctor of philosophy degrees.
International Business
international business management, international human resource management, international marketing, cultural issues.
Management
corporate governance, SME behaviour and development, organisational structure and restructuring, management decision making and behaviour, cultural and strategic issues.
Marketing
e-marketing, international marketing, international and strategic issues.
School of Finance and Applied Statistics
The School of Finance and Applied Statistics has responsibility for undergraduate teaching both for introductory finance and quantitative courses and for later year students specialising in applied statistics, business statistics, corporate finance, financial management, investments and actuarial studies.
Actuarial Studies
Actuarial studies combines studies in economics, finance, mathematics and statistics to develop techniques and skills to assess, evaluate and manage future financial risk and thereby address a wide range of practical problems in long-term financial planning and management.
Statistics
Statistics is concerned with a wide variety of data measurement and inferential problems across the range of natural and social sciences including theory and application.
Finance
Finance is concerned with the study of financial instruments, institutions, markets and systems. It involves the study of financial decision making under uncertainty, which has many applications such as in the fields of accounting, banking, financial consulting and planning, funds management, merchant banking and stock broking.
